Tonton Film Bergenre Psychological Thriller , Jika Kamu Bosan Dengan Film Horror Yang Begitu Begitu Aja

Kalau boleh jujur, sebetulnya gue bukan penggemar film bergenre horror. Film bergenre horror terakhir yang gue tonton adalah Insidious 3, dan itu pun gue tonton di bioskop bareng kakak gue karena dia keukeuh butuh teman buat nonton (padahal awalnya dia yang ngejek gue karena dikiranya gue takut film horror). Film horror biasanya punya pencahayaan, musik latar, efek suara, dan zooming-and-panning yang unik. Misalnya, kalau hantunya mulai datang, pasti ada semacam efek suara atau musik latar yang dikasih crescendo. Maksudnya, suaranya bertahap dari pelan sampai tiba-tiba keras dan menggelegar. Belum lagi efek visual dan pencahayaan yang digunakan, si hantu pun jadi tampak menyeramkan dan mengejutkan (meskipun ada beberapa hantu yang--menurut gue--malah tampak konyol, seperti hantu anak kecil di film Insidious).

Masih bicara tentang film yang bikin merinding, gue mau berbagi rekomendasi beberapa film bergenre psychological thriller yang nggak kalah bikin deg-degan dan merinding dengan film-film bergenre lain, terutama horror. Genre ini sendiri sebetulnya merupakan turunan dari genre thriller. Kebanyakan orang mungkin nggak tahu kalau film yang pernah mereka tonton ternyata bergenre ini (atau, setidaknya, ber-subgenre ini). Sesuai dengan namanya, film bergenre psychological thriller biasanya menonjolkan konflik yang lebih bersifat emosional atau psikis daripada fisik. Meskipun demikian, bukan tidak mungkin bahwa film bergenre ini memasukkan unsur-unsur kekerasan fisik (bahkan sampai yang berdarah-darah), drama (misalnya, pertengkaran suami istri), sampai supernatural. Biasanya, penonton dibuat penasaran atau deg-degan dengan identitas atau tindakan karakter yang masih belum terungkap, atau bahkan jalan pikir karakter sendiri. Terlebih lagi, beberapa film bergenre ini punya plot twist yang bisa bikin penonton kaget, kesal, atau miris.

Biar nggak lama, langsung aja gue kasih beberapa rekomendasi film bergenre psychological thriller (termasuk, mungkin, film non-thriller dengan unsur psychological thrilling) yang worth watching.

1. The Skeleton Key (2005)

Kalau bicara tentang film psychological thriller, film pertama yang muncul di benak gue adalah film ini. Film yang dirilis tahun 2005 ini dibintangi oleh Kate Hudson sebagai protagonisnya dan Gena Rowlands sebagai karakter antagonis utama. The Skeleton Key berfokus pada kehidupan Caroline Ellis (Kate Hudson) sebagai seorang perawat di sebuah rumah sakit yang, akhirnya, memutuskan untuk keluar dan bekerja sebagai perawat dan pengasuh untuk sebuah keluarga yang tinggal di sebuah rumah perkebunan bergaya antebellum yang cukup jauh dari kota. Rumah ini dihuni oleh sepasang suami istri yang sudah tua, Ben dan Violet Deveraux (dibintangi oleh John Hurt dan Gena Rowlands). Ben sendiri mengalami kelumpuhan dan tidak bisa bicara, meskipun masih bisa melihat dan mendengar. Sementara itu, Violet setiap harinya berkebun dan memasak. Sejak awal bekerja, ada beberapa hal yang membuat Caroline penasaran dan bingung, seperti tidak adanya cermin di rumah (bahkan di kamar mandi), serta satu ruangan kecil di loteng yang nggak bisa dibuka, kecuali dengan skeleton key, satu kunci yang bisa membuka semua pintu. Di tambah lagi, dia merasa bahwa kelumpuhan Ben ini disebabkan oleh hal yang "mencurigakan". Pada akhirnya, ketika Caroline perlahan menyingkap misteri yang ada di rumah itu dan mencoba menyelamatkan Ben, ia sadar bahwa ada bahaya yang mengintai dia.

Terlepas dari deg-degan dan penasaran yang dirasakan, film yang berdurasi sekitar 1 jam 40 menit ini menyuguhkan latar tempat yang menarik, terutama buat kalian yang tertarik dengan desain arsitektur. Berlokasi shooting di Felicity Plantation, Lousiana, penonton bisa melihat bangunan rumah bergaya antebellum yang–sebetulnya–bagus. Di tambah lagi, rumah yang menjadi latar tempat utama masih dikelilingi hutan dan kebun-kebun. Sepintas setting seperti itu nginget gue sama rumah-rumah peninggalan zaman kolonial Belanda yang berlokasi di dekat perkebunan teh atau semacamnya.

2. Stoker (2013)

Coba bayangkan seorang remaja perempuan yang tinggal bersama ibunya yang mentally unstable setelah ayahnya meninggal secara tragis. Setelah kematian sang ayah, adik sang ayah akhirnya ikut tinggal bersama mereka dan, ternyata, si paman ini bukan orang yang baik dan sakit jiwa. Mungkin kita akan simpati dengan si remaja perempuan itu atas nasibnya yang menyedihkan. Nah, sekarang gimana jadinya kalau remaja perempuan yang awalnya kita kasihani itu, ternyata "sakit" juga? Kurang lebih, itulah yang bisa gue bilangin buat menggambarkan film Stoker. Film ini dirilis tahun 2013 dan disutradarai oleh Park Chan Woo, serta dibintangi oleh Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, dan Nicole Kidman.

Kalau kita dengar cerita seperti itu di kehidupan nyata, mungkin kita bakalan berhenti dengar atau ganti topik. Sayangnya, di film Stoker kamu harus lihat sampai beres dan, mungkin, merasa kecewa karena karakter yang kamu simpatikan dari awal ternyata bukanlah sosok yang kamu bayangkan. Seperti kata pepatah, don't judge book by its cover. Tapi kalau lagi nonton film, siapa juga yang mungkin bakalan menyangka bahwa karakter yang kita sukai ternyata nggak sebaik yang kita kira. Kalau kalian sebelumnya pernah nonton film Alice in Wonderland, gambaran Mia Wasikowska sebagai sosok Alice yang manis dan menggemaskan bakalan hilang di film ini. 🙁

3. Grand Piano (2013)

Katakanlah kamu adalah seorang pianis. Berkesempatan memainkan karya-karya klasik untuk piano di panggung besar dan diiringi oleh orkestra tentunya merupakan mimpi buat para pianis. Bisa bermain piano sendiri udah jadi hal yang keren, apalagi kalau banyak orang yang akhirnya jadi nge-fans karena tergila-gila sama permainan piano kamu yang bikin melting. Namun, apa jadinya kalau nyawa kamu, dan nyawa orang yang kamu sayangi, justru terancam ketika kamu lagi konser? Satu-satunya cara supaya nyawa kamu nggak terancam adalah dengan mainin karya klasik yang akan ditampilkan dengan sempurna. Bikin deg-degan gak tuh?

Nah, itulah yang dialami oleh protagonis Tom Selznick (diperankan oleh Elijah Wood) dalam film Grand Piano. Dirilis tahun 2013, film ini menceritakan tentang seorang pianis yang mendapatkan ancaman pembunuhan ketika dia sedang konser. Satu-satunya cara yang bisa menyelamatkan nyawanya (dan nyawa orang yang dia sayangi) adalah dengan memainkan satu karya klasik dengan sempurna, tanpa ada salah not sama sekali. Tom nggak tahu posisi pembunuhnya, tapi yang jelas, pembunuhnya tahu di mana Tom berada dan bisa tahu kalau Tom mainin not yang salah.

Kalau kamu jadi dia, kamu mau gimana? Lanjut main apa turun panggung?

4. The Forgotten (2004)

Katakanlah ada sesuatu yang kamu ingat dengan pasti karena kamu menjalaninya sendiri. Ketika kamu ceritakan hal tersebut ke orang lain, mereka nggak percaya dan justru bilang bahwa kamu bohong. Mereka malah bilang bahwa hal itu nggak pernah ada. Setelah itu, kamu mulai mempertanyakan dunia ini, sikap orang-orang, dan, bahkan, kewarasan kamu sendiri.

Kurang lebih itulah yang digambarkan oleh film ini. The Forgotten adalah film bergenre psychological thriller dengan bumbu sci-fi yang dibintangi oleh Julianne Moore dan Dominic West. Film ini menceritakan tentang seorang ibu bernama Telly (Julianne Moore) yang baru saja kehilangan anaknya karena kecelakaan pesawat. Hanya saja, dia belum bisa menerima kepergian anaknya dan secara perlahan, menyadari bahwa kenangan tentang anaknya secara perlahan mulai dihapus. Sampai pada akhirnya, orang-orang di sekitarnya bilang bahwa dia nggak punya anak. Pada titik tersebut, dia pun semacam mempertanyakan kewarasannya sambil di sisi lain mencari fakta dan bukti bahwa dia memang punya anak.

Apakah Telly berhasil menunjukkan pada orang-orang bahwa dia punya anak? Well, you'd better watch the movie, guys! Yang jelas satu pelajaran yang bisa diambil dari film ini adalah kasih sayang ibu itu sangat besar dan kuat.

5. Flightplan (2005)

Sebenarnya film ini masih mirip-mirip dengan The Forgotten karena plotnya masih berfokus pada hubungan ibu dan anak. Bedanya, film ini ngga ada bumbu-bumbu sci-fi dan sedikit ke arah action (walaupun nggak begitu kentara). Film ini dibintangi oleh Jodie Foster dan Peter Sarsgaard. Plotnya berfokus pada Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster) yang baru saja kehilangan suaminya dan berencana untuk kembali ke Amerika Serikat bersama anaknya. Setelah tidur sebentar, dia sadar bahwa anaknya hilang. Ironisnya, nggak ada satu pun orang di pesawat yang percaya bahwa dia membawa anak ke pesawat, termasuk kru pesawat.

Berbekal pengetahuannya sebagai aircraft engineer, Kyle mencari sendiri anaknya di pesawat. Sementara itu, orang-orang tetap nggak percaya bahwa dia punya anak dan menganggap dia gila, mungkin karena tertekan setelah kematian suaminya. Pada satu titik, dia pun mulai mempertanyakan kewarasannya sampai ada sesuatu yang membuat dia sadar bahwa dia memang punya anak dan dia nggak gila.

Apakah Kyle berhasil menemukan anaknya? Mendingan tonton aja film ini buat cari tahu sendiri. Kan ga asik kalau gue yang kasih tau he he.

6. Orphan (2009)

Kalau kalian pernah nonton Hunger Games, pasti inget dengan karakter Clove. Ya, karakter tersebut diperankan oleh Isabelle Fuhrman. Sebelumnya, mari kita setuju bahwa Isabelle Fuhrman itu cantik dan gorgeous. Setuju ya? Setuju aja deh biar cepet. Nah, kalau kalian udah nonton Hunger Games dan tahu karakter Clove, tapi belum pernah nonton film ini, maaf banget nih image Clove yang enerjik, bersemangat tapi tetep cantik bakalan hilang di film Orphan. Pertama, film ini dirilis 3 tahun sebelum Hunger Games dirilis. Yang kedua, karakter yang diperankan Isabelle Fuhrman di film ini bener-bener beda banget. Beda jauh!

Orphan adalah film bergenre psychological thriller yang dibintangi oleh Isabelle Furhman, Vera Farmiga, dan Peter Sarsgaard. Film ini menceritakan tentang keluarga Coleman yang ingin mengadopsi anak setelah Kate Coleman (Vera Farmiga) mengalami keguguran. Keluarga ini memutuskan untuk mengadopsi anak asal Rusia bernama Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman). Akan tetapi, setelah diadopsi, Kate merasa bahwa ada yang aneh dengan Esther. Kecurigaan ini diperkuat ketika suster Abigail, kepala panti asuhan, memperingatkan Kate bahwa kehadiran Esther sering membawa hal-hal buruk. Pada akhirnya, Kate dan John (Peter Sarsgaard) sadar bahwa Esther ini berbahaya dan nyawa mereka berada dalam ancaman besar.

Sekali lagi, buat kalian yang nge-fans sama Isabelle Fuhrman, siap-siap kaget dengan image dia di film ini. Bakalan ada cukup banyak scene yang bikin kalian meringis ngeri di film ini. Darah dan luka? Ya, lumayan banyak.

7. Silent House (2011)

Silent House merupakan film bergenre psychological thriller dengan sentuhan horror yang cukup kental. Film yang dirilis tahun 2011 ini merupakan remake dari film Uruguay berjudul La Casa Muda. Dibintangi oleh Elizabeth Olsen sebagai protagonis, film ini diambil dengan teknik single continuous take jadi sepanjang film, nggak ada cut ke sudut pandang kamera lainnya.

Film ini menceritakan tentang Sarah yang tinggal bersama ayah dan pamannya buat bantu membetulkan rumah lama mereka. Ketika masuk ke dalam rumah, Sarah mengalami hal-hal ganjil yang mengerikan. Pada awalnya, dia merasa bahwa ada orang asing yang tinggal di lantai bawah tanah rumah, tapi setelah itu, dia sadar bahwa ada kehadiran sosok lain di rumah tersebut. Adanya sosok anak kecil misterius dan flashback yang ditampilkan di tengah-tengah cerita jadi semacam tanda buat penonton bahwa apa yang Sarah alami dan lihat di rumah itu berkaitan dengan masa kecilnya.

Apakah Sarah berhasil keluar ke rumah itu? Apa yang terjadi sama Sarah waktu dia masih kecil? Jangan cari jawabannya di Wikipedia, tapi tonton langsung aja filmnya.

8. Gone Girl (2014)

Gone Girl merupakan film yang diadaptasi dari novel dengan judul yang sama, Gone Girl, karya Gillian Flynn. Film ini dibintangi oleh Ben Affleck dan Rosamund Pike sebagai Nick dan Amy Dunne, pasangan suami istri yang kehidupan pernikahannya–sebetulnya–tidak mulus. Kalau kalian pernah baca novelnya, kalian tinggal tonton filmnya aja dan pilih mana yang menurut kalian lebih rame, filmnya atau novelnya. Kalau buat gue sendiri, gue lebih suka novelnya karena gue harus imajinasikan sendiri karakter dan setting cerita.

Film ini menceritakan tentang Nick Dunne yang kehilangan istrinya, Amy Dunne di hari ulang tahun pernikahan mereka yang ke-lima. Kehilangan di sini maksudnya kehilangan as if lu hilang barang. Yup, Amy menghilang. Nick menghubungi polisi dan detektif untuk mencari Amy. Di saat panik dan bingung seperti itu, polisi dan detektif melakukan analisis forensik dan justru menemukan beberapa hal atau "bukti" yang menunjukkan bahwa Nick yang menyebabkan hilangnya Amy. Bahkan, beberapa bukti menunjukkan bahwa Amy dibunuh oleh Nick. Mereka pun menemukan buku harian Amy yang isinya menceritakan kehidupan pernikahan dia bersama Nick yang tidak bahagia. Tapi apa benar Nick membunuh Amy? Lalu, bagaimana keadaan Amy dan di mana dia sebenarnya? Siap-siap aja karena tindakan dan jalan pikir karakter yang ada di film ini bakalan bikin kamu kaget, kesel, dan geregetan.

9. Pintu Terlarang (2009)

Dari tadi gue kasih rekomendasi film luar, sekarang gue mau kasih rekomendasi film Indonesia yang–ternyata–nggak kalah bagusnya dan tetap bisa bikin deg-degan sambil mikir penasaran. Mungkin kalian pernah tonton film ini tapi kalau belum, coba tonton aja filmnya (gue pernah lihat ada yang unggah full-length film-nya di YouTube). Pintu Terlarang adalah film bergenre psychological thriller dengan sentuhan horror yang dirilis tahun 2009. Film ini disutradarai oleh Joko Anwar dan diadaptasi dari novel Pintu Terlarang karangan Sekar Ayu Asmara. Di film ini, Fachri Albar jadi protagonis cerita, ditemani oleh Marsha Timothy, Henidar Amroe, dan Tio Pakusadewo.

Film ini bercerita tentang kehidupan Gambir (Fachri Albar), seorang pematung sukses yang membuat patung-patung dengan tema wanita hamil. Ternyata, istrinya, Talyda (Marsha Timothy), pernah menggugurkan kandungannya dan memaksa Gambir untuk memasukkan janinnya ke dalam patung wanita hamil tersebut supaya patungnya lebih "hidup". Setelah itu, Gambir mulai banyak melihat tulisan "Tolong saya" di berbagai tempat. Semakin lama, dia semakin sering melihat tulisan itu sampai dia pun datang ke sebuah tempat yang–katanya–bisa memberikan jawaban. Di sana, Gambir mendapatkan petunjuk tentang penulis pesan tersebut–yang ternyata adalah seorang anak kecil yang disiksa oleh orang tuanya. Di sisi lain, Gambir juga mendapatkan jawaban "tambahan" yang membongkar rahasia yang selama ini disembunyikan oleh Talyda dan orang-orang terdekatnya. Merasa dikhianati, Gambir pun merencanakan pembunuhan yang dramatis untuk mereka dan setelahnya, ia langsung membuka pintu rahasia yang selama ini dilarang untuk dibuka oleh Talyda. Sayangnya, setelah pintu itu dibuka, Gambir pun sadar akan realita dan imajinasi yang selama ini saling tumpang tindih.

Yang gue suka dari film ini adalah scene di mana Gambir melakukan aksi balas dendamnya dengan "cantik". Kalau kalian pernah nonton, pasti adegan Christmas eve dinner-nya susah dilupakan. Adegan yang sadistic dan gore tersebut ditemani dengan alunan musik Christmas jazz yang membangun nuansa ironis dan, inevitably, tragis.
